Polpress: International media has reported that the Presidential Medal of Courage of Kosovo has been awarded to Afghan female protesters.
The Medal of Courage was presented to the protesting girls in an official program titled “International Women, Peace and Security Assembly.”
The program, which took place on Tuesday, had over 800 representatives from 40 countries worldwide and was attended by the President of Kosovo.
The Medal of Courage was awarded by Vjosa Osmani, the President of Kosovo, to Zahra Nader, an Afghan journalist, Arefa Fatemi, Madina Darwazi, and several other protesting girls.
Zahra Nader, upon receiving the medal, stated: “It is estimated that 20 million women and girls are deprived of their rights. They do not have the right to travel for work or education, or even the right to choose their attire.”
She mentioned that the Taliban has dismantled all support systems for women in Afghanistan and violence against this group, particularly gender-based violence, has increased.
According to published reports, the International Women, Peace and Security Assembly was held in order to address security, peace, and reflect the voices of survivors of sexual violence.
Prominent international figures from countries like the United States, Slovenia, Albania, and representatives from other countries were present at the event.
Taliban Obstruction
Sources in Kabul have reported that the Taliban prevented the travel of some women and girls who were invited to the award ceremony.
It was planned for four women from Kabul to participate in the program, but due to not having a male guardian, they were deprived of attending the event.
Adela Yadgar, a staff member of the Afghan Women for Women Institute, Mahnaz Baluch, a staff member of the International Organization for Migration, Naginah Ahmadi, a staff member of the Institute for Capacity and Knowledge, and Farzaneh Yaghoubi, a staff member of the Sustainable Assistance Organization in Afghanistan, were among those invited from Kabul to participate in this event.
The Taliban has not officially commented on this matter yet.
